Arts Commission Grants and Deadlines

The Orange County Arts Commission offers two grant cycles annually and partners on the regional artist grant program, the Emerging Artists Grant.

Spring Arts Grants May 27, 2003, 5 pm
Fall Arts Grants November 25, 2002, 5 pm
Emerging Artists Grants To the Durham Arts Council by 9 pm on September 12, 2002

Spring Arts Grant Categories:
  1. Arts Program Grant
    funds up to $1,500.00 available to non-profit organizations coordinating arts projects benefiting the citizens of Orange County.
     
  2. General Arts Support Grant
    funds up to $5,000.00 available to Orange County non-profit arts organizations that consistently provide high-quality arts programs. Organizations must have received an Orange County Arts Commission grant in each of the three previous years to apply.
     
  3. Arts in Education Grant
    funds up to $1,000.00 available to public or private schools, or parent and teacher organizations in Orange County coordinating arts programs.
     
  4. Arts in Education Coalition Grant
    funds up to $5,000.00 available to three or more Orange County schools or parent and teacher organizations coordinating arts programs.
     
  5. Artist Project Grant
    funds up to $1,000.00 available to professional artists coordinating arts projects benefiting the citizens of Orange County.

Spring Grants Project Period: The spring cycle of grants will fund arts activities taking place from July 1, 2003-June 30, 2004. A fall cycle will also be available for all categories except the General Arts Support and the Arts in Education Coalition grants, which will be available annually.

Supportable Projects: Applicants may request funds to support a variety of arts programs in the visual, performing, literary arts. 

Deadline: The Orange County Arts Commission will accept applications for all categories by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2003

Applications: Applications will be available online (in PDF format) in early March; hard-copies will be available at the Arts Commission office and at all Orange County Public Libraries. 

Information Session: The Arts Commission will hold a free grant-writing workshop on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at the Arts Commission office in Hillsborough. To registrar or for more information about grants or the Arts Commission, email us or call 919/245-2335.

Fall Arts Grant Categories:

  1. Arts Program Grant

Durham Arts Council logo
Emerging Artists Grants

source: Durham Arts Council, Inc., supported by grants from the North Carolina Arts Council, the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, and the Orange County Arts Commission.

purpose: to support developing professional artists by funding a project pivotal to the advancement of their careers as artists. An emerging artist is either an artist in his/her formative years who is attempting to launch a professional career, or an artist taking an established career in a new direction.

preference:   Criteria are:

  • Overall excellence of the applicant's art work and demonstration of exceptional talent 
  • The applicant's serious professional commitment to his or her art form 
  • Contribution of the proposed project to the artist's professional development 
  • Feasibility of the proposed project 
eligibility:   Artists practicing any art form are eligible to apply for a grant. Applicants must be current residents of Chatham, Durham, Granville, Orange or Person Counties, North Carolina, and must have resided in one of these counties for at least one year prior to the application deadline. 

Granted activities must be completed between January 1 and June 30 of the grant year.

information session:    A free information session for potential Emerging Artist Grant applicants in Orange County will be held on Monday, August 12, 2002 from 5:30-7:00 pm, at the Chapel Hill Public Library. Interested Orange County artists may call the Orange County Arts Commission at 919/245-2335 for more information about this meeting.
