The Orange County Arts Commission offers two grant cycles annually and partners on the regional artist grant program, the Emerging Artists Grant.

Funding Sources: Orange County Arts Commission grants are made possible though support from the North Carolina Arts Council and the Orange County Board of County Commissioners.

Spring Arts Grants

1. Arts Program Grant
   funds up to $1,500.00 available to non-profit organizations coordinating arts projects benefiting the citizens of Orange County.
    
2. General Arts Support Grant
   funds up to $5,000.00 available to Orange County non-profit arts organizations that consistently provide high-quality arts programs. Organizations must have received an Orange County Arts Commission grant in each of the three previous years to apply.
    
3. Arts in Education Grant
   funds up to $1,000.00 available to public or private schools, or parent and teacher organizations in Orange County coordinating arts programs.
    
4. Arts in Education Coalition Grant
   funds up to $5,000.00 available to three or more Orange County schools or parent and teacher organizations coordinating arts programs.
    
5. Artist Project Grant
   funds up to $1,000.00 available to professional artists coordinating arts projects benefiting the citizens of Orange County.

Spring Grants Project Period: The spring cycle of grants will fund arts activities taking place from July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008. A fall cycle will also be available for all categories except the General Arts Support, which is available annually.

Supportable Projects: Applicants may request funds to support a variety of arts programs in the visual, performing, literary arts. 

Deadline: The Orange County Arts Commission will accept applications for all categories by 5 pm in early June, 2007 (TBA). 

Information Session: The Arts Commission will hold a free grant-writing workshop in mid-April, 2007 (TBA). To register for this workshop, or for more information about grants or the Arts Commission, email us at arts@co.orange.nc.us or call 919/245-2335.

The Final Report deadline for ORGANIZATIONS receiving Spring, 2006 OCAC grants is 5 pm on Thursday, July 5, 2007. The final report form for these ORGANIZATIONS is available for downloading below (in MS Word document format):

Emerging Artists Grants

purpose: to support developing professional artists by funding a project pivotal to the advancement of their careers as artists. An emerging artist is either an artist in his/her formative years who is attempting to launch a professional career, or an artist taking an established career in a new direction.

preference:   Criteria are:

• Overall excellence of the applicant's art work and demonstration of exceptional talent 
• The applicant's serious professional commitment to his or her art form 
• Contribution of the proposed project to the artist's professional development 
• Feasibility of the proposed project 

Granted activities should take place between January 1 and September 30, 2007, though extensions will be considered.

information session:    A free information session for potential Emerging Artist Grant applicants in Orange County will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2006 from 6-7:30 pm in the large conference room downstairs at the Chapel Hill Public Library (100 Library Drive).
